Some of you asked to see more as my garden progresses through the growing season and I am happy to oblige. This video was taken on 22nd April where a few plants have already had their moment of glory, some are looking fabulous right now and many others are yet to come. At this time of year the garden is constantly changing.
A couple of pointers about this video. Sorry about the trains. Most of the time we barely notice them (people always say that don’t they?!!). They only pass every half hour, two of them, on a loop going into London Waterloo and come into our little local station at Strawberry Hill, one after the other, but they both did so just as I was taking this video and I didn’t have time to re-do it before the sun dipped behind the house and we lost much of the evening light.
The Dogwood I point out with the creamy-white bracts is Cornus Kuosa.
The purply red plant I refer to as a Polygonum is in fact Persicaria microcephala ‘Red Dragon’. The name just didn’t come to me when doing the video. You’d think I’d rehearse it all before filming wouldn’t you?
Note to self: I really must come up with some more adjectives when I do these videos. “Lovely” and “Beautiful” feature rather a lot and I need to sort out some alternatives for the next one!
It never did rain, in fact we haven’t had rain for weeks. In the past I would have really stressed about this but in 2020, during lockdown, I finally had a watering system installed in my garden and it makes such a difference. Sometimes I hardly have to use it, but this year has been unusually hot and dry during spring, so the watering has been essential.
I hope you enjoy this tour of my April garden and I shall continue to update you as more changes happen during the summer.
