Hi I enjoy your writing here. Thank you. Has your Insta been hacked? It’s gone strange. Apologies if it hadn’t but I hope all is ok. Best wishes.

Hi Susy, sorry to hear about your fall and hope you're recovering from the after effects. You write so well about the way we often ignore that wise inner voice of caution, which is very familiar and of course, like many people, I've ignored it at my peril. But it also made me think about when I did a self defence course many years ago and one of the key suggestions was to trust our intuition if we sense someone is not to be trusted or represents a danger. It's easy to dismiss that twinge of warning but our instincts are usually good and worth following - whether it's about not climbing on a wobbly chair, dashing across a busy road or moving away from someone who makes you feel uneasy. We are wiser than we realise. Take care everyone - but keep having fun!

Dear Susy,

I know exactly what you mean about that voice in your head telling you not to take a risk. But I ignore it mainly through stubbornness, impatience, and, living on my own, being too proud to ask a neighbour or friend for help. So I often find myself heaving a heavy piece of furniture upstairs late at night because I think it might look better there; or at this time of year, balancing on top of a wobbly ladder in my slightly sloping back garden to get at those last annoying branches that have sprung up from the crown of the three trees after the sun and rain and are destroying its shape. Or, as I am about to do now, balancing on same ladder but on uneven stone slabs at the front of my house to tame and train the Banksia rose shrub climbing too far up the wall. Every time I do it, I imagine myself in slow motion leaning too far over and falling on to the spikes of the Victorian iron railings enclosing the front garden. Will it finally happen this time...?

Do hope you're recovering well- how scary, could have been much worse:(

I recall working in Covent Garden in an office and trying to snip some wire with scissors🙄🤦‍♀️! Of course the slipped and I sliced off a good chunk of skin from a little finger... rushed to pharmacy to get skin closing tape. I felt very silly indeed...

Oh dear ! I hope you are on the mend . My Don’t you listen moment was Friday .

I was feeling rather smug because due to the wrong coach being ordered on Thursday , I had had to take my car and three children to the year 6 camp at Beesands and because some had only done a day visit they all could get on the coach for the trip back . I could go straight home on the hottest day of the year and I love the coast rods home . However in an effort to leave ahead of the coach to navigate the tiny lanes I mislaid my phone. So I stopped in a gateway and found it. At the main road I found the coastal road closed , so settled on the route the coach would take to Kingsbridge . At Chillington the road narrows - the traffic was slow . Then I met a large car and caravan on the bend. In the time it took for me to turn my mirrors in, the car had done his and inched past, but the caravan was wider and there was the inevitable crunch as it scraped the rear of my mini clubman . A driver ahead of me told me the caravan had stopped so I drove on and turned round to talk. Turns out his caravan wears a silver stripe of my Herschel whizzo and poor Herschel has white scratches . The caravan’s filler cap lies in pieces somewhere on the A379 . So no doubt it will end up 50:50 as no witnesses stayed . I was stationary but I’m sure that won’t stack up. And our coach - well they passed as I was exchanging details. And so the route home was arduous and slow after all!

Expensive school trip!
