I am writing this week with a picture and an apology. You would normally have received my weekly newsletter by now but unfortunately I am having to take a week off as I have done something to my back. I saw an osteopath on Friday and she began to work her magic but I am not yet right and still in pain. I see her again on Tuesday. Until I get it sorted I am finding it hard to sit at my laptop for any length of time.
I told the osteopath I had a dilemma: all the plants in this picture are waiting to go into the garden. Some of them, the dahlias and the Hesperis matronalis, will be OK for the moment but the Ammi majus and the Cosmos are bursting out of their pots and will not survive if I don’t get them planted right now.
This has all been exacerbated by being on holiday in Scotland for 10 days in May. I would never normally go away at this time of the year when there is so much to be done in the garden: I usually wait until June or July when garden work is less intensive. I potted on all my seedlings before leaving and a kind friend kept them watered in my absence but I knew I would need to get on with planting as soon as I returned. Doing my back in was not part of the plan!
The osteopath agreed, reluctantly, I could get my plants in as long as I was careful, so I spent yesterday moving very slowly but gradually getting the job done, while my husband gallantly mowed the lawn and shifted heavy pots around for me. I’m sure doing all that bending and digging hasn’t helped my back, but I shall find out when I get back to see the osteo in a couple of days and at least it doesn’t feel any worse. Meanwhile, the garden is looking so much better and while we worked, Finlay the cocker spaniel sunbathed: he’s got the right idea!
I hope to be back to normal as soon as possible and resume the sending of my newsletters to you.
I would love to hear your home truths too. If there is something you’d like to tell me, please leave a comment and I will respond
I sympathise, back pain can be very debilitating and that can be frustrating. I was a Police Officer and had to retire early due to back/neck injury. That was 23 years ago, but I still can't get used to not being able to do the things I used to as easily or as quickly as I did and still get frustrated. I have to take slow release morphine twice a day every day to deal with the pain, but I'm very thankful I have the mobility I have. I hope you get to the bottom of what's causing your pain and it can be treated quickly and successfully. Happy, very careful gardening!🌿🌺🌿
Hope you feel better soon Suzy! But your plants look so much more advanced than mine. I'm not sure they will ever get big enough to plant out!
