I am writing to you this week with a holding message. The newsletter you should have received last weekend was to be about a lovely trip to Northern Ireland I had taken with my two daughters. It had been in the planning for ages. We were going on a sentimental journey so I could show the girls all the places that were important to me when I was growing up.
But it was not to be. We arrived in Belfast just after 10 o’clock on the morning of Friday 9th September. We set off on a drive to the coast and the caravan park where I spent most of my childhood summers. This picture was taken on the beach there. About four hours later we were all in ambulances on our way to hospital. We had been involved in a serious car accident.
We are home again now and slowly recovering from our injuries. Thankfully, there is nothing that will not heal, given time. At some point I will write to you about what happened and begin sending you my usual newsletters again.
In the meantime, I apologise to all of you, but especially to those of you who are paying subscribers, that the service you signed up for is not currently forthcoming, and also for the fact that I have been writing rather a lot recently about downbeat subjects, namely, the accidents and mishaps that have seem to have befallen me one after another over the past year.
That was never the plan, it has just happened that way, but, as they say, “That’s life”. The reason I called my Substack writings “Home Truths” was so you could get a sense of my life, warts and all and I’m afraid there have been quite a lot of warts recently. I promise I shall get down to some more joyous jottings as soon as I am able. In the meantime, thank you so much for your understanding
What a dreadful thing to happen! I do hope you and your daughters make a speedy recovery 💗
Oh Susy, I'm so sorry what an awful experience. Lets hope that that is the end of bad fortune for this year and the autumn heralds the start of a wonderful new season and lots of happy experiences to make up for the past year. Best wishes, Debbie
