Welcome. Home Truths is a weekly newsletter from me, Susy Smith.
I am many things: a parent of grown-up kids, a dog owner, a gardener and a compulsive mover of vases (I worked for years as a stylist). I am also a writer/editor and former Editor-in-Chief of British Country Living Magazine. I retired in 2019 after 37 years in the print publishing business, having worked on a variety of publications from teen mags to top interiors titles. I still write a monthly column for Country Living called “View From Here”, but there are many subjects I want to talk about that don’t fit the remit. They will live here, on Home Truths.
And what might those subjects be? Well, the tag-line for Home Truths is
Life, and a few of the lessons I’ve learned along the way.
So, my focus will be pretty eclectic and range from “Why we’re all Bad Mothers” or “Who says Gardening is a great Stress Reliever?” to “For me ‘Living the Dream’ ended in a Nightmare”

I’m doing this because I love writing and because I believe I’ve got something to say. If you sign up to become a subscriber, you will receive my weekly newsletter in your inbox, so you never miss one. These will arrive on a Sunday morning - you can read them like you might the weekend papers! They might be about something in the news that’s piqued my interest, or, alternately, one of the topics on a long list I’d like to cover, but they will always reveal my honest and innermost thoughts on the subject.
